US defense officials can not confirm NKorea test

WASHINGTON, Oct 9 (Reuters) US defense officials said they could not confirm North Korea had conducted a nuclear test.

''I cannot confirm that yet,'' said one defense official last night, speaking on condition of anonymity. Other defense officials also said they could not confirm the test.

North Korea's Central News Agency, or KCNA, said the country had successfully carried out an underground nuclear test.
