Two killed in bomb explosion while extracting brass

Kapurthala Oct 9 (UNI) Two persons were killed and one was injured in an explosion when the three were trying to extract brass from a bomb at their shop here this afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Dev Raj(40), a junk dealer and his servant Jugla(18), both residents of the town.

Palwinder Singh, a shopkeeper, received minor injuries and was admitted in the local civil hospital.

Deputy Superintendent of Police D S Uppal, who along with police party reached the spot told the media persons that deceased Dev Raj was extracting the brass with the help of a hammer from the bomb when it exploded, resulting in the instant death of Jugla while Dev Raj succumbed to his injuries in the local civil hospital.

The blast also damaged the shop, a moped and a gate of the adjoining house.

SSP Rajiv Ahir told media persons that it was an accidental explosion and the bomb was suspected to be from the Army. An Army officer also visited the shop to inquire into the explosion.

According to police sources, the shop is situated near the Army Cantonment and the Army personnel used to sell the scrap to the junk dealers. Four boxes bearing Army marks were also found in the shop.
