Trial in Shahabuddin case resume soon

Patna, Oct 9: The trial of criminal cases against controversial RJD MP Md Shahabuddin will resume once he is medically fit and shifted to Siwan jail from AIIMS, where he was operated upon for spinal problems yesterday.

State Home Commissioner Afzal Amanullah told newspersons here the trial in the criminal cases would resume once the MP is shifted to the Siwan jail. Md Shahabuddin is likely to be discharged from the hosiptal after a fortnight.

Earlier, following directions of the Patna High Court, Md Shahabuddin was shifted to AIIMS for treatment of his spinal ailments.

Through a petition, Md Shahabuddin had prayed before the court to ensure proper treatment. The court had directed the state government to hold the trial of the cases lodged against him through video conferencing, if the treatment was prolonged.

However, due to some difficulties it could not be held and now the government was waiting for Md Shahabuddin to be shifted to the Siwan jail for resuming the trial.

Md Shahabuddin, who is facing 40 criminal cases including that of murder, had been charged with act of treason, Arms Act, theft, Wildlife Act, possessing appliances used by the army and for keeping Pakistani-made fire arms and cartridges.
