SKorea tells troops to step up alert

SEOUL, Oct 9 (Reuters) South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said today that they had ordered all army units to step up their state of alert following North Korea's announcement it had conducted a nuclear test.

''We have made the order as of 1120 (0750 hrs IST),'' a spokesman said.
