BJP seeks EC intervention on govt

Jalandhar, Oct 9: Former Punjab Health Minister and former BJP state president Manoranjan Kalia has sought intervention of the Election Commission to restrain the Amarinder Singh Government in Punjab from making ''false propaganda''in print media about development works in the state.

Talking to reporters here today Mr Kalia said that ahead of the next assembly elections in the state, the Chief Minister had been trying to win support of electorate through misleading advertisements with factually wrong data about developmental works and achievements of his government.'' ''The present government was not only disseminating misinformation but was also attempting to take credit of projects which in fact, were worked out and implemented by previous Akali Dal-BJP coalition goverment in the state,'' he charged.

Mr Kalia said that Election Commission should intervene in the matter and ask the state government to stop this false propaganda immediately.

Commission should also order registering of a criminal case against the chief minister for misleading people with ''false information'' through this publicity campaign.

He said that a public interest litigation(PIL) petition would also be filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the campaign.
