Parthiban cremated with military honours

Chennai, Oct 9 (UNI) The body of the army officer killed in an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday last was cremated with military honours at Pammal near here today.

The body of N Parthiban, of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, was brought here last night. The officer, who had shot dead five militants on October six, was killed the next day in an encounter, a defence press release here said.

Lt Parthiban had joined the Army last year after clearing the NDA examination through the NCC quota and was trained at the in the Officers Training Academy, Chennai.

The 25 Battalion of Madras Regimental Centre, Pallavaram, made all arrangements for the funeral. Brigadier Mony of ATNK&K Area Headquarters, Chennai and Commanding Officer of 25 Madras Battalion Col Alex Jacob were present at the ceremony, among other Army officers, the release added.
