Industry and academies to develop sports in NE

Aizawl, Oct 9 (UNI) Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the universities of the region will join hands to determine future of sports in northe this part of the country.

According to the blue-print, CII will play the role of facilitator, SAI will provide logistic support and the universities will form the talent pool.

Besides, SAI will take its talent development programmes to college and university campuses, focusing on Olympic diciplines and strictly monitoring the progress of the trainees.

According to official sources comprehensive programme has been drawn up at a round table organised by the CII, where the vice-chancellors of Mizoram university, Assam university, Tripura university, Rajiv Gandhi university, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland university and Central Agricultural university, Manipur, participated to chalk out the partnership.

SAI is also planning to set up a special area game centre in the region at the cost of about 20 crore.

Vice-chancellors of all universities have already given positive signal to the proposed partnership programme to develop sports activities in their respective region.
