Indian worker in Bahrain chained inside shop

Dubai, Oct 9, (UNI) An Indian worker was allegedly chained inside the shop of his Bahraini sponsor so that he would not run away media reports said.

Dharmarasan Sengottain, 24, was found in a tailor shop with some food and was taken to the police station.

His sponsor claimed he had employed Sengottain two years back but he latter disappeared, only coming back to him for a visa extension.

He said he wanted to send Sengottain back to India, but when he refused to cooperate, he took him to his tailor shop and chained him there.

"I have arranged for his tickets today and will send him back to India," the sponsor told Bahrain Tribune.

Sengottain said that the tailor shop was not operational so he had to work as a construction worker there.

He had paid BD 1,250 (Rs150,000) to an agent to get work in Bahrain and used to get BD 4.2 (Rs 480) for an eight-hour shift.
