Kolkata, Oct 9: The 12-hour Trinamool Congress sponsored Bangla bandh virtually had no affect on flight operations at the domestic and international terminals of NSCBI airport.

The bandh has been called to protest against acquisition of farmlands for Tata Motor's small car project in Singur in Hooghly district.

National airlines Indian operated seven flights to Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Agartala, Silchar, Imphal and Port Blair, as also to Bangkok.

However, the Mumbai flight was delayed by 35 minutes because of a ''congesion of passengers'' doing security check-up, an airlines spokesman said.

A high ranking AAI officials told UNI that till now the bandh had little impact on airport operations with staff attendance being near normal.

An Emirates Airlines flight arrived and also departed in the morning.

The Bangaldesh Biman operated its Dhaka flight on schedule.

Airport officials said that a large number of passengers had arrived at the airport before 0600 hours when the bandh officially began while many had also stayed overnight at the airport to catch early morning flights.

A shortage of transport from airport to the city, however, caused some problems for the passengers arriving today.
