Engineering student dies in accident

Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 9: A final year engineering student of DMS SVH College of Engineering died in a road accident infront of the college here last night, according to police.

Police said, Veeramani (23) a final year engineering (civil) student, hailing from Andaman Nicobar islands, who got the seat in the institution on union territory quota, met with the accident when a maruti car hit him from back, while he was walking.

He was seriously injured and rushed to government hospital.

But he succumbed to his injuries there.

Meanwhile, the students of the college have been staging dharna and protests since last night alleging that the death was due to negligence of the doctors. The hospital did not have the facilities to treat the injured student and had he been shifted to Vijayawada Unversity general hospital, he could have been saved, they claimed.

The students also blamed the police for failing to arrest the Maruti car driver even after they provided the car number to them.

Meanwhile, Principal of the college informed the incident to the parents of the student and said they would arrive here on Wednesday.
