Doctors call for N-weapons free world
New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) today lent their voice to barrage of global criticism of nucear weapon tests by North Korea, calling for a nation wide campaign to abolish nucear weapons beginning with a seminar at Goa on October 13.
According to a press release, the first phase of the campaign will continue till the World Congress of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) to be held at Delhi from 7 to 12 March next year.
North Korea announced today that it had set off an atomic weapon underground, a test that thrusts the secretive communist state into the elite club of nuclear-armed nations.
The United States, Japan, China and Britain led a chorus of criticism and urged action by the United Nations Security Council in response to the reported test, which fell one day after the anniversary of reclusive North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il's accession to power nine years ago.
