DMK men unleashing terror during poll campain: BJP

Chennai, Oct 9 (UNI) Tamil Nadu BJP General Secretary Tamilisai Sounderrajan today accused the ruling DMK cadres of 'unleashing terror' with the active connivance of the police all over the state, particularly in the city during the campaigning for the two-phase local bodies elections to be held on October 13 and 15.

Talking to newspersons here, she said the police, instead of taking action against the DMK activitsts, who were responsible for violent incidents, were arresting the cadres of the opposition parties.

Doubting whether the elections to the local bodies would be conducted in a fair and free manner, the BJP leader appealed to the voters to think twice before casting their franchise.

Taking strong exception over the reported claim of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder-leader Dr Ramadoss that if people wanted clean administration in the local bodies, they should vote for the DMK-led DPA in the elections, Ms Tamilisai said Dr Ramadoss had no moral right to speak about transparent administration as his son and Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramdoss's administration was ridiculed by his cabinet colleagues like Lalu Prasad and leaders of the Left parties.

Moreover among the DPA partners, there was a lot of difference of opinion about the seat sharing and skirmishes was going on between Union Minister G K Vasan and Tamil Nadu Congress President Krishnaswamy, she added.

Taking a dig over the reported claim of actor-turned politician and founder of the Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) Vijayakanth that the DMDK was the only viable alternative for the dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu, she said the BJP was the only alternative for the Congress at the national level and the Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu.

She termed as 'undemocratic,' the ten-day interval between the counting of votes and election of heads for the Corporations and municipalities.

Strongly condemning the attitude of State Election Commissioner D Chandrasekaran while replying to opposition charges in a threatening manner, she alleged that Mr Chandrasekaran was acting at the behest of the ruling DMK.
