Constructive opposition essential for healthy democracy; Azad

Jammu, Oct 9 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said an opposition is imperative for strengthening democracy and creating healthy atmosphere for prosperity and growth of the state and nation.

After inaugurating the Jammu Municipal Coporation Assembly Hall for corporators here this evening, Mr Azad called upon the corporators to play a vital role in translating the peoples aspirations into reality.

He expressed happiness on the presence of all political leaders and municipal coporators, cutting across political considerations at the function, saying this is the novely of our democracy and cultural ethos.

The Chief Minister said Jammu is being developed as a significant tourist destination and attactions of such nature are being created in and around the city that pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnathji would like to stay in the city.

He said, keeping this in view, several development and beautification schemes have been launched in the winter capital of the state while many more are in the pipeline.

Mr Azad said the city has expanded rapidly with large increase in population over the years and called upon the corporations to make concerted efforts in expanding and upgrading civic amenities accordingly by generating resources for the purpose.
