Constable stabs wife, arrested

Haridwar, Oct 9 (UNI) A PAC constable murdered his wife at their residential quarters in the 40th PAC battalion here last night, after charging her with infidelity.

The sources said that on hearing the screams of Sushila Devi, neighbours rushed to her house and nabbed Ved Pal, who had stabbed her.

On getting information, SSP Abhinav Kumar, commandant A S Negi, City SP J R Joshi and other police officials rushed to the spot.

The motive behind the killing is said to be Ved Pal's suspicion that his wife had an extra marital affair, Mr Negi told UNI adding the accused was an alcoholic who often quarreled with his wife in an inebriated condition. He was consequently transferred to Srinagar from where he had come to his residence at Haridwar two days ago.

The accused has been suspended and a case under section 302 of IPC has been registered against him, the commandant added.
