Cong's mayoral candidate's electoral plank is pollution
Lucknow, Oct 9 (UNI) Pollution and cleanliness would be the major poll planks of Congress' mayor candidate from the capital city.
Former IPS officer and ex vice-chancellor of Agra university Dr Mansoor Ahmed said here he would strive to make the city pollution-free. ''In times of diseases, I would also work for cleanliness,'' he added.
Dr Ahmed maintained that corporators, who once used to have extensive powers, were now left with little authority. ''I want corporators to have powers equal to a mayor,'' he said.
Talking to reporters, Congress Rajya Sabha member and union minister Akhilesh Das said that initially Dr Ahmed was not interested in contesting the urban local body elections.
''But we made him contest the post, keeping in mind his previous experience as a policeman and as a vice-chancellor.'' UNI NAB VS VD RN1809
