AGP candidate joins Congress
Guwahati, Oct 9 (UNI) The Asom Gana Parishad has received a blow as its proposed candidate for the forthcoming bypolls at Jamunamukh legislative assembly council crossed over to the Congress at the eleventh hour.
The AGP had planned to field Khalilur Rahman, who won from Jamunamukh in 1996 and 2001 polls, for the forthcoming polls.
However, Mr Rahman sent the AGP thinktank into a tizzy by joining the Congress.
The bypolls for Jamunamukh seat was neccesitated after Badaruddin Ajmal vacated the seat to represent South Salmara LAC.
Interestingly, Mr Ajmal had defeated Mr Raham in the elections held early this year.
