4 killed in explosion

Kanpur, Oct 9 (UNI) At least four people were killed on the spot and six injured in a sudden explosion near Chakeri Airport here this evening.

Police Superintendent P C Meena said a suspected high-intensity cracker exploded at Meerupur village in the vicinity of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

A nearby house collapsed under the impact of explosion. All the injured have been admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, IG Rizwan Ahmad and DIG Daljeet Chaudhary among other senior police officials, had rushed to the spot.

Mr Meena said investigations were on to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
