Undertrial's widow demands action against culprits
Raipur, Oct 8 (UNI) The widow of an undertrial, who was allegedly killed in Ambikapur central jail, has written to the Chhattisgarh Human Rights Commission (CHRC) demanding action against the culprits besides Rs 40 lakh ex-gratia.
In her letter, Ms Savitri Devi claimed that her husband Shubhkaran Dwivedi was falsely implicated in a murder case about one-and-half years back and was detained in the jail locker.
He had launched a non-violent agitation since the past six-months against alleged rampant corruption and harassment of prisoners in jail premises and demanded facilities as per the jail manual.
She alleged that the district administration along with some jail inmates unleashed a deadly attack on her husband on October 1 and threw his body in a well.
Ms Devi pointed out that the death of her husband had created danger of survival before her and the responsibility of her four children had come upon her. However, being a housewife, she was not capable of feeding her family.
She demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter and strict action against the guilty.
