Teak logs seized
Raipur, Oct 8 (UNI) Eighty teak logs, worth over Rs 2.5 lakh, were seized from a special armed force vehicle from police line area in the state capital, police said today.
On a tip-off that teakwood was kept in a vehicle at the 9th battalion in police line area, police reached the spot and seized the timber yesterday. Later, vehicle driver Rajesh was interrogated but he could not provide documents for transporting the wood.
Police were grilling the driver and trying to ascertain whether similar smuggling incidents took place earlier and how the timber arrived here from Dantewara.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said the legal status of the teakwood was being ascertained.
He informed that the headquarters of the 9th battalion was in Dantewara, while a segment of personnel was stationed here.
