Police fires 3 rounds at Malda peace demonstrators
Malda, Oct 8 (UNI) Police today fired three rounds in the air to disperse an agitating mob at Kaliyachak in West Bengal's Malda district.
However, no one was arrested in this regard, police said.
According to sources, a scuffle broke out between two different groups of people in the village over the issue of free Arsenic water supply during a peace demonstration.
While the demonstration was going on, six miscreants hurled bomb's at the villagers.
Earlier, six miscreants were arrested but later were released.
The issue started after the state government launched free arsenic water services through pipe lines a month before to a part of the village, sources said.
The people from two different parts of the village were fighting over the supply of free arsenic water here as a part of the village got the pipelines.
About one in every hundred people suffer from arsenic related diseases, official sources said.
District Superintendent of Police Dilip Mondal said the peace demonstrations would start again with the help of local MLA's.
The communication was disrupted for a few hours due to the bandh at the National Highway here, police said.
