One dead, five affected with dengue in AP

Hyderabad, Oct 8 (UNI) One person died and five others were affected with dengue in Andhra Pradesh, State Director of Health P Venkateswara Rao said today.

Addressing mediapersons here, Dr Venkateswara Rao said one person died in a private hospital in Anantapur district yesterday while two people were admitted in private hospital in Hyderabad. One person in Srikakulam and one in Khammam who were also affected with the fever, were also admitted to a private hosital.

The primary diagnostic reports revealed that another person in West Godavari district was also suffering from the fever, he said.

Stating that all the cases were registered in private hospital, Dr Rao said there were no reports that the dengue patients were admitted in government hospitals in the state.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Health and Finance Minister K Rosaiah today said the state government had launched a ''three-year massive programme'', with the participation of all government departments and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), to control Dengue and other vector borne diseases in the state.

Participating in a conference on ''Management of Mosquito menace and Control of Vector borne Disease in AP'', Mr Rosaiah said 'round the clock epidemic cells' were constituted at state and district level as part of the massive programmes.

The cells would receive the information on Dengue and other vector borne diseases and provide medical assistance in the affected areas within hours.

Stating that the 'Task Force,' constituted under the chairmanship of state principal secretary of health, would monitor the measures taken up by the cells to control Dengue, he said diagnostic and treatment facilities for Dengue were made available in all district hospitals.

The minister said insecticides , larvicides and anti-malarials were being supplied to all districts, from where it would be distributed to all villages.
