It was the right decision to field: Bashar

Mohali, Oct 8 (UNI) Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar has said his decision to field after winning the toss was correct but his Sri Lankan counterpart differed.

Talking to mediapersons here last night after his team lost to Sri Lanka by 37 runs in the first qualifying round match of the Champions trophy here, Bashar said, '' The decision to field was taken after careful thinking. I think I did the right thing, however my bowlers did not bowl up to my expectations.'' Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardane, on the other hand, was of the view that he would have batted first if he had won the toss. ''I was bit surprised when asked to bat first.'' Bashar, however, saw several postives in yesterday's match despite losing it. ''It is not easy to chase an over 300 target, but we batted well and scored 265. This will give us a boost. To score 265 against a formidable bowling line-up is not easy but my boys did it.'' ''It is a good start, our morale is high,'' he added. Jayawardne was candid enough to admit that his side committed several mistakes, saying, ''We conceded for too many extras and our plan did not exactly worked.'' ''However, we will learn from this. This match will serve as a good lesson for us in the remaining ties of the champions trophy.'' He showered encomiums on young opener Upal Tharanga and wicket-keeper Sangakkara and hoped that his side will put up a better showing in the remaining matches.
