Five people arrested in North 24 Parganas
Bangaon, Oct 08 (UNI) At least five people were arrested and a 12-hour bandh was observed today in Sabhaypur and adjoining villages in North 24 Parganas in protest against killing of two people on October 6 by armed miscreants near Manigram market under Bangaon police station area.
Police picket was installed in the area while no untoward incident was reported so far, police said today.
''Todays' bandh prior to twelve hour bandh called by the Trinamool in the state will have adverse impact locally. People in the area will not encourage another bandh from next morning,'' local CPI(M) leaders observed. The dawn to dusk bandh was called by the CPI-M.
According to police, the victims were the inhabitants of Sabhaypur village and attacked by 10 to 12 people while returning from the market at night.
The miscreants hurled bombs at them. Bhutta Mandal (45) was spot dead and Akbar Biswas (35) and Anwar Biswas were injured. Bhutto was not only shot dead but chopped by a sharp weapon.
While the injured were admitted to the Bangaon Sub-divisional hospital, Akbar Biswas succumbed to his injuries early today.
