ARMY XI trounced ANFA Nepal 1-0

Gangtok, Oct 08 (UNI) Army XI trounced ANFA Nepal 1-0 in a quarter final league match today to book their place in the next round of the 28th All India Governor's Gold Cup football tournament being played at the Palzor stadium here.

The first half of the match ended goalless as both the teams became successful in their attempt to keep the other away from scoring in the keenly contested match.

After the breather the Army XI seemed to have the upperhand with the ball remaining in ANFA Nepal's half for the major part of the game.

The bristling pace which helped ANFA Nepal to win the cup four times in the past is missing this time.

In the second half M.G.Ramachandran of Army XI broke the deadlock when he headed the ball into the net in the 57th minute.

After the goal the Nepal boys tried their best to change the scenario but the shots by Hari Khadka, Santosh Gurung, Anjan K C and Pradip Maharjan either went wide or were grabbed by the Army custodian.

A long ranger from Yugal Kishor Rai, a substitute player of ANFA Nepal just before the long whistle, hit the bar missing the net by inches thereby allowing victory to Army XI to win.
