AGP wakes up to eye infection
Guwahati, Oct 8 (UNI) Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) President Brindabon Goswami and two other senior leaders of the opposition today visited cataract patients at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) to take stock of the situation in the wake of detection of post-operative infections among some of the patients last month.
Mr Goswami, Joseph Toppo and Apurba Bhattacharjee visited the RIO today after five of the infected patients lost sight in their operated eyes.
Five infected patients, who were airdashed to Chennai for specialised treatment on October 1, came back with infected eyes as doctors in the Southern metropolis failed to cure those.
A total 37 patients had been suffering from post-operative infection and were sent to Chennai in several batches by the state government for treatment.
The AGP has raised demands for resignation of state Health Minister Himanta Bishwa Sharma on moral grounds for failing to fix responsibility for post-operation infection that hit the cataract patients in the RIO.
