23 DMK workers arrested for allegedly bribing voters
Madurai, Oct 8 (UNI) The city police today arrested 24 workers of the ruling DMK on the charge of bribing voters and indulging in violence during the ongoing campaign for the October 11 byelection to the state Assembly.
All those arrested were produced before a magistrate, who remanded them to custody.
While Muthuraj of Sellur area and 13 others were arrested on the complaint of former AIADMK minister E Madhusudhanan, the remaining ten, including Jolly Arumugam were held on the complaint of AIADMK local functionary, Arumugam.
This was the first instance of the police taking action against the ruling party for ''bribing voters'' with cash.
Earlier in the day, AIADMK supremo and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had accused the police of being a mute spectator to the excesses committed by the ruling partymen.
