Two held for offering bribe to IPS officer
Bhopal, Oct 7 (UNI) Two persons, who attempted to offer bribe of about Rs 50,000 to a senior IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh, were arrested here today.
Gwalior-residents Man Singh Baghel and Shambhu Dayal Baghel were arrested under section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act for offering the bribe to Additional Director General (CID) Vijay Raman at his chamber at the police headquarters this afternoon.
Man Singh Baghel and few members of his family were accused after his daughter-in-law was found dead under suspicious circumstances in June this year.
Bhopal Superintendent of Police A K Singh told UNI that Man Singh had met Mr Raman earlier also in connection with the case and sought a CID inquiry. However, Mr Raman had rejected CID inquiry into the case.
During today's meeting, Mr Raman was handed over an envelope saying it contained an application. Mr Raman smelt a rat and informed local police, which arrested both.
Director General of Police Swaraj Puri was removed from his post a fortnight ago after criminal case was registered against him for securing his son's admission to an engineering college in Indore under NRI quota through false declaration. Mr Anand Rao Pawar has taken over as the new DGP, while Mr Puri was shifted to Home Guards.
