Situation in Mangalore under control: K'taka DGP
Mangalore, Oct 7: Karnataka Director General of Police B S Sial today said the overall situation in the trouble-torn Dakshina Kannada district is under control and peaceful, though tension prevailed in some parts of Thokkottu and Ullal on the city outskirts.
''Except for one or two violent incidents, the situation is normal and peaceful...Priority has been given to restore peace in the district,'' the DGP, who went round some of the violence-hit areas in Ullal, Thokkottu, Kuttarupadavu, Derlakatte, Pajir and Someshwar Cross, told mediapersons at Ullal.
To a query, Mr Sial said the reason for the communal flare up was yet to be ascertained. Adequate police force had been deployed in and around the sensitive areas to maintain law and order.
Altogether, 94 cases have been registered and 177 people arrested in connection with the violence. As many as 112 preventive arrests have also been made.
Though he hinted at relaxing curfew for one or two hours in the evening depending on the situation, there was no such sign till 1730 hrs.
To a query, the DGP neither rejected nor admitted the role of SIMI in the communal clashes.
