Shobha Yatra: Dist admn can impement HC order

Bangalore, Oct 7: The Karnataka Cabinet today gave full powers to the district administration to implement the High Court order regarding conduct of religious functions like Shobha Yatra on the occasion of Datta Jayanti at Bababudanagiri in Chikmagalur district, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti said today.

In a post Cabinet Press briefing, he said the Cabinet had instructed the district administration to hold Datta Jayanti peacefully without any law and order problems.

Mr Horatti said the Cabinet cancelled the present Boards and Corporations and approved its reconstitution with new appointments.

Accepting a demand from the film industry, the Cabinet approved to bring video piracy under the purview of Goondas Act, he said, adding that it also approved relaxation of norms for issuing ration cards to Below Poverty Line families.

Stating that the Cabinet meeting took up 18 issues today, the Minister said it approved 118 acres of land for the construction of a medical college in Shimoga.
