Geelani under house arrest again in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 7: Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was today again put under house arrest, official sources said.
They said the step was taken as a precautionary measure.
A spokesman for the HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI that a large number of Jammu and Kashmir police personnel have been deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani since early this morning.
He said a senior police officer informed him that Mr Geelani cannot leave the house till further orders.
Mr Akbar said Mr Geelani was to lead a procession from Kashmir university to holy Hazratbal shrine this afternoon to protest against the Delhi court's order to hang Mohammad Afzal Guru, prime accused in the December 13, 2001 parliament attack case.
He said last week Mr Geelani was under house arrest for two days and he was not allowed to offer Friday prayers on September 29 in the mosque.
