Five more deaths in Cherthala; toll 90

Alappuzha, Oct 7 (UNI) Five more people died of suspected Chikungunya in Cherthala taluk today, taking the death toll in this worst-hit district of Kerala to 90.

Though all five had high fever, the definite cause of death could be stated only after an autopsy, health officials said.

Those who died today were Rugmani (67), Madhavan(72), Bhaskaran (75), Thankappan (75) and Devaki (71).

Nearly 3,000 people reported at Cherthala taluk hospital today.

Following heavy rains and complaints of breathing problems by people due to use of Melatheon for fogging, the operations were suspended.
