CPI, CPM join hands for Punjab assembly polls

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) The Punjab units of the CPI and the CPI(M) have decided to jointly fight the Assembly elections in Punjab to consolidate and expand their respective bases.

This decision was taken here today in the meeting of the state level coordination committee of both the parties held in state headquarter of the CPI.

CPI (M) leaders who participated in the meeting included state party secretary Balwant Singh and state secretariat members Charan Singh Virdi and Raghunath Singh. The CPI comprised of state Secretary Jagroop Singh, Dr Joginder Dyal, Bant Brar, Bhupinder Sambhar and Harbhjan Singh.

The meeting was presided over by veteran CPI leader Pyara Singh Deosi.

The state coordination committee discussed the prevailing political situation in Punjab in the context of Assembly polls to be held in February next year.

The committee finalised the broad contours of the election line to be adopted by the two parties with particular focus on defeating the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance. Both the two parties alleged that the SAD-BJP was a communal alliance and had ''anti-people'' record.

The Committee made it clear that the two Left parties will have no alliance or adjustment with the Congress and would expose the ruling party for pursuing anti-people policies under the dictat of the WTO.

''We will build the alternative pro-people policies and strive to win meaningful representation in the Assembly to effectively legislate and implement the measures to defend interests of the toiling masses and democratic development of the state'', a resolution adopted at the meeting stated.

The coordination committee further decided to organise joint activity oriented towards elections with immediate effect. The concrete plan will be chalked out in the next meeting of the committee to be held short.
