Hyderabad, Oct 6 (UNI) Surgeons of the Government Niloufer Children's Hospital performed a rare surgery on an 11-month-old girl born with a common urinary, anal and vaginal opening and constructed the three channels without opening the abdomen in a single procedure.
The girl, Navya, was brought to the hospital, in a very serious condition a month ago, and the doctors first stabilised her health before performing the surgery.
Hospital Superintendent N C K Reddy, who led the team of four surgeons, told UNI that only one child in one lakh births was born with this rare anomaly known as 'Cloaca'. In the last ten years, only a few such cases were reported.
Explaining the procedure, Dr Reddy said previously three to four surgeries were required to correct the condtion. However, in this case, the reconstruction of all the three channels was done in a single intervention successfully without opening the stomach.
