Protest against privatisation of second container terminal

Chennai, Oct 6 (UNI) The Madras Port and Dock Employees Union today staged a demonstration in front of the Chennai Port Trust (CPT) Administative Office to protest against the privatisation of the proposed second container terminal at CPT After the demonstration, they submitted a memorandum to the CPT Chairman and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

They were demanding among other things, payment of 33 per cent of productivity-linked reward before Diwali as against 17.5 per cent announced by the Union Ministry, merger of 50 per cent of DA with basic pay on the lines of other PSUs and constitution of a bipartite wage negotiating committee for a new wage settlement agreement from January one next year.
