Key conspirators convicted in 93 Mumbai blasts case

Mumbai, Oct 6: The designated TADA court, pronouncing the final verdict today found three key conspirators guilty of involvement in the serial blasts which rocked the metropois in 1993.

Designated TADA Judge P D Kode found accused Sheikh Ali, Shahid Qureshi and Parvez Sheikh guilty under the various sections of the TADA Act, Arms and Explosives substances Act and Indian Penal Code.

The accused Shahid Qureshi and Sheikh Ali were in custody.

However, another accused, Parvez Sheikh was on bail and taken into custody while the court convicted him.

While convicting accused Sheikh Ali, the court found him guilty for taking active part in the conspiratorial meeting and the landing of the deadly arms and ammunitions at Shekhadi in the Raigarh district of Maharashtra.

The court found him guilty under six different counts of the TADA act, which include his participation in the landing, involvement in weapon training at Shandheri, Bhorghat district.

The court also found him guilty for attending the conspirator's meeting held at the residence of the co-accused where the conspiracy was hatched and also for his involvement in the filling of the deadly RDX in the vehicles and suitcases.

The court also found that due to his instigation, the other accused in the case had joined the conspiracy.

The court also found Sheikh Ali guilty for selecting the targets which include BMC and Stock Exchange building, however the blasts occured only at the Stock Exchange. He was also charged alongwith absconding accused Javed Chikna, Bashir Khan and approver Usman Khan that they had left Tiger Memon's residence in a car alog with arms and ammunitions but abandoned the car at Worli with an aim to commit the terrorist act.

The court had accepted the confessional statement which was later retracted by the accused on the grounds that the other material produced before the court indicate the involvement of the accused.
