DMK, AIADMK file complaints with police
Chennai, Oct 6: The ruling DMK today alleged the AIADMK partymen led by Mr P K Sekar Babu planned to instigate violence during the elections to the Chennai Corporation on October 13 in a bid to wrest control of the local body.
In a complaint to the City Police Commissioner Party, North Chennai District Secretary L Balaraman cited a few examples in the previous civic and assembly elections in which AIADMK partymen 'made all kinds of attempts to get favourable results.' He requested the commissioner to provide necessary police protection to the DMK District functionaries and DPA candidates.
Mr Balaraman also wanted deployment of sufficient police for maintenance of law and order both during polling and counting and to ensure the elections were held peacefully and democratically.
Earlier in the day, 155 AIADMK and alliance candidates met City Police Commissioner Latika Saran seeking protection as they were allegedly threatened by the ruling DMK partymen ''who were having hand in glove with few police officers.'' Meanwhile, AIADMK Party North Chennai District Secretary P K Sekar Babu, MLA, told newsmen a few police officers in the city were ''taking biased actions against their political allies and making charges against them.'' He came to understand a few goondas had been released from prison recently and the DMK Government decided to threaten the AIADMK-led alliance candidates to wrest victory in the elections.
Mr Babu said the CoP assured them that she would look into their complaint.
