Divya, Mallika enter quarterfinals

Vijayawada, Oct 6 (UNI) Divya Rajaram of Tamil Nadu and Mallika Bhandarkar of Maharashtra today moved into the quarterfinals of the sub-junior girls singles in the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship being played here today.

In the pre-quarter matches, Ms Divya defeated Somali Sarkar of West Bengal 11-7, 11-6, 4-11 and 11-5 while Mallika, after winning the first set, lost the second set to S Narasimha Priya of Tamil Nadu and won the next two sets scoring 11-7, 11-13, 11-7 and 11-6.

Ankita Das, Medha Moitra of North Bengal, N Vidya, V Sneha of Tamil Nadu, Charvi Kawle of Maharashtra and Camelia Sil of West Bengal also found a place in the quarterfinals.

In the second round of the sub-junior boys singles matches, unseeded player Harikrishnan of PSPBA won against sixth seeded Ch S S V Ramana of Andhra Pradesh 11-9, 11-8, 11-9 in straight sets and moved into pre-quarters. Top seed G Sathiyan of Tamil Nadu also won the match in straight sets against Akash Damle of Maharashtra 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 to move into the pre-quarters.

In the first round of junior boys singles matches, Tausif Haque of Orissa beat Arijit Nandi of North Bengal in straight sets 12-10, 12-10, 11-8 and moved into the second round of the main draw. Likewise, Shlok Kamadar of Maharashtra trounced Vishnudakshin K B of Puducherry 12-10, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8 and entered the second round.

Akhil V Athresh of Karnataka pipped Jenil Shah of Gujarat 3-11, 11-7, 3-11, 11-7, 11-8 to find a place in the second round.
