Security beefed up along Indo-Nepal border
Siddharthnagar, Oct 5 (UNI) The security apparatus has been beefed up along the 305 km long Indo-Nepal international border in Uttar Pradesh to check the activities of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agents and Maoists.
The international border impinges on Maharajganj, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar and Shravasti districts of UP.
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) DIG H S Dev told UNI here today that patrolling had been intensified and each person entering or leaving the Indian territory through the border was being interrogated.
SSB is also setting-up 27 new checkposts in the front areas, which would take the total number of such posts to 72.
The new checkposts would be manned by an elite SSB force, currently being training by Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Rifles.
Mr Dev informed the Union Home Ministry was being apprised of the intelligence inputs regularly, so that necessary actions could be taken to pre-empt activities, that could harm the interests of the nation.
This year, SSB arrested 140 smugglers in border areas and seized smuggled goods worth Rs 1.60 crore.
