Rogue elephant shot dead
Kohima, Oct 5 (UNI) The rogue elephant, which trampled a man to death, was shot dead on Monday last, according to a delayed report received here today.
The elephant had killed one Faruk Ahmed at Tanhai village under Mon district of Nagaland on Sunday last.
Sources said the elephant, which was tied with a tree for over a week for its rogue behaviour, had killed Faruk when he went to supply fodder to the elephant.
On the following day it became more violent and tried to tear off the chains and in the process it injured its leg. Seeing its violent nature, the local authorities decided to kill the elephant, finding no other option.
The owner of the elephant consented and the pachyderm was shot dead.
