President should not sign Afzal's pardon: Swamy

Chennai, Oct 5: Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today appealed to President A P J Abdul Kalam not to sign any recommendation of the Home Ministry to pardon Mohammad Afzal, who is facing the gallows for his involvement in the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament.

In a statement here, he said,'' Though Afzal has refused to ask for mercy, the cacophony is on his behalf by bleeding heart liberals who have no tear for those who died defending Parliament House on December 13, 2001.'' The orchestration of voices for seeking amnesty or clemency for the convicted terrorist revealed the sinister penetration of pro-terrorist forces inside India's power structure, he remarked.

Dr Swamy said terrorism would succeed where the people in authority were over-awed by terrorist demands such as release of imprisoned terrorist leaders, clemency for convicted terrorists and negotiating peace with terrorist outfits.

He alleged that under the UPA rule, India was fast becoming a terrorist-compliant state, ''a state that capitulates before the terrorists.''
