MDMK Propaganda Secretary arrested

Chennai, Oct 5 (UNI) City Police has arrested Mr Nanjil Sampath, Propaganda Secretary of the Marumalarchi DMK, for allegedly making derogatory remarks against a DMK woman functionary Mrs Vijaya Thayanban.

Police said a case had been registered against him under section 354 of the IPC and Prevention of Women Harassment Act 1998.

Mr Sampath had made the remarks at a public meeting held in the city recently. Based on a complaint from Mrs Thayanban, police registered a case and arrested him.

Mrs Thayanban was unsuccessful in the recent Assembly elections as an MDMK candidate against State Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy.

Subsequently, she resigned from the MDMK and joined the DMK.
