Inquiry demanded in temple encroachments in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 5: Expressing concern over encroachment of temple premises, the Zeshta Devi Prabhandhak Committee has demanded an inquiry into the encroachments in historic temple premises in the valley.

The Committee has urged the government to make concrete arrangements for preservation and upkeep of historical temples in in the valley.

The Committee Members, who are in the valley since 1989, visited Pracheen Bhadrakali Mandir in Handwara on Mahanavami.

Expressing anguish over the poor state of temples, the Committee has condemned the government for turning a blind eye towards the Dharam Trust property.

The members said that most of the temple premises across the valley had been encroached.

The Committee has urged upon Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to personally intervene in the matter and constitute a committee to inquire into the encroachments in historical temple premises.
