Govt refutes TDP allegation

Hyderabad, Oct 5 (UNI) Refuting the allegation of Andhra Pradesh opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) that the present government was neglecting the Telangana region, Congress today said that it was actually the TDP that had neglected it during its ten-year rule.

Talking to newspersons here, party spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy said while the TDP had spent Rs 10,392 crore for irrigation sector in the entire state during its ten-year rule, the share of Telangana was only Rs 4,556 crore, forming 43.85 per cent.

''The Congress government, during its 25 month rule, had spent Rs 12,037 crore on the irrigation sector of which the share of Telangana was Rs 6,601 crore, forming 55 per cent,'' he said.

Mr Reddy said while the TDP spent Rs 42.1 crore on the Devadula project during its ten year rule, the YSR government had spent Rs 1,520.18 crore on the project, which would benefit the Telangana region.

The Congress spokesperson said similarly has government had spent more money on Sriramsagar flood canal, Sriramsagar second stage, Gutfa lift irrigation scheme and Alisagar projects in just 25 months than what the TDP had spent in ten years.

He said after the Jala Yagnam (irrigation initiative) taken up by Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy gets completed, Warangal, Karimnagar and Khammam districts in the Telangana region would stand in first, second and third places respectively, surpassing the developed Godavari districts.

Mr Reddy said while the TDP government created 83,145 jobs in the IT sector, the YSR government had created 62,444 jobs. He has expressed confidence that the Congress party would post a landslide victory in the Karimnagar Lok Sabha byelection caused by the resignation of TRS supremo K Chandrasekhara Rao.
