Lucknow, Oct 5 (UNI) A prominent Shia organisation today alleged that the union government has done a great injustice to the community by appointing a Sunni cleric from the Shia quota in the recently formed Central Haj Committee.

Addressing newspersons here, Shia National Front (SNF) secretary Maulana Yasoob Abbas said the community has taken serious view of the lapse on the part of the union government.

According to sections 3, 4, 5 and 8 of Haj Committee Act 2002, 7 Muslims members (4 Sunnis and 3 Shias) are required to be nominated in Central Haj Committee, besides 4 Muslim MPs (2 from Lok Sabha and 2 from Rajya Sabha and an equal number of government officials.

Anzar Shah Masood, A V Abdul Raheem, Hafeez Naushad Ahmad Azmi and Prof Ali Kutty have been nominated from the Sunni quota.

All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) member Hasan Ahmad, Mrs Mahmooda Afzal of Srinagar and Maulana Bilal Abdul Hai Hashmi of Rae Bareli have been nominated from Shia quota.

Maulana Abbas claimed that ''on inquiry,'' it was found that Maulana Bilal does not belong to the Shia sect. ''He is a Sunni Muslim.'' Maulana Abbas has demanded the new haj committee be disbanded and the requisite Shia members be appointed in the new committee.
