Chamundi hills illumination project gets under way

Mysore, Oct 5 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today launched a Rs two crore project to illuminate Chamundi hills, Chamundeshwari temple and its environs atop the hills here.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the decision to implement the project was taken only three days ago on Vijayadasami day following a request for permanent illumination of the hills from the people of the city.

Mr Kumaraswamy said the JD(S)-BJP coalition Government in the State aimed at providing shelter to everyone in the State in the coming days and a unique housing scheme would be launched shortly for the purpose.

He would visit Bagalkot from October ten and take up various development works there. He also intended to visit Chamarajanagara soon, but the date would be announced shortly, he said.

Karnataka Public Works and Energy Minister H D Revanna said there were plans to illuminate Chamundi hills on the lines of the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir and officials had been sent there to study the system before implementing the project here.

Later, Mr Kumaraswamy, laying the foundation stone for the Rs 18 crore bridge at Sagarakatte in Mysore district, strongly criticised the Opposition leaders' remarks that the Government had been looting money for unnecessary works and said money was spent on providing facilities and taking care of poor people and women, who have been deprived of their rights for so many years.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Revanna said a Rs 100 crore proposal for the construction of various bridges was before the Government.

He announced that all villagers below poverty line in the State would be provided electricity free of cost this year.

The Minister reiterated that the Government would conduct Panchalinga Darshana at Talakadu in Mysore district on the lines of Mahamastakabishekha at Sravanabelagola, held once in 12 years, and the Government had sanctioned Rs 36 crore for the purpose.
