BJP to finalise its candidate for Koderma bypoll

Ranchi, Oct 05 (UNI) Jharkhand BJP president Yadunath Pandey, Ms Sumitra Mahajan, in-charge of party affairs in the state, and two other senior leaders today left for New Delhi to attend tomorrow's central election committee meeting to finalise the nominee for the November six by-election to Koderma parliamentary seat.

Before departure, the state party held a meeting and sorted out a list of five contenders -- Mr Pandey, former MLA Laxman Swarnakar, former MP (late) Heeralal Verma's son Pranab Verma, Mr Bindubhushan Dubey and former IAS officer S N Prasad.

Party's state spokesperson Ramesh Puskar told UNI here that today's meeting was held in presence of Ms Sumitra Mahajan, party's in-charge of Jharkhand, regional organising secretary Hridaynath Singh, state organising secretary Ranjan Patel besides Mr Pandey.

All the four today left for the national capital.

According to informed sources, Mr Pranab Verma is considered the strong contender for his late father who had won the seat for fifth term.

The by-poll was necessitated after former BJP vice-president Babulal Marandi resigned from the Lok Sabha in May last.

In the last general elections, the BJP could manage to win only this seat in the state.
