BBC World now in India on DTH

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) BBC World, the British Broadcasting Corporation's 24-hour international news channel, has been launched on the Direct-to-Home (DTH) platform in India.

The channel will be available to the subscribers of DTH provider Dish TV, BBC said in a release here.

BBC World already reaches around 15 million homes across India via the cable TV and the new deal brings the channel's total distribution to 16.5 million Indian homes, it said.

''India is a fast-growing market for multi-channel television and a key market for BBC World. We are delighted to be part of this Dish TV offer as it brings BBC World to a new and dynamic audience,'' says Amit Upadhyay, head of distribution and business development for BBC World, South Asia.

''The channel is highly regarded in India and has a loyal following. We are pleased to be providing new viewers with our award-winning journalism and news reporting,'' Upadhyay said.

Dish TV's business head Jawahar Goel said the deal was in line with its commitment to provide the ''best of infotainment news and information programming available, in India or abroad, to our subscribers''.

BBC World has viewers in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide and has a weekly audience of around 65 million.
