Aircel's subscription touches three million

Chennai, Oct 5: Aircel, a leading mobile service provider in Tamil Nadu, has become the first cellular operator in the region to cross the three-million subscribers mark.

As part of the celebrations, the company had announced that all its subscribers, both pre-paid and postpaid customers, could enjoy free 'on net' (Aircel-to-Aircel) talk-time between 1200 hrs 1500 hrs on October six, 2006.

Aircel Chief Executive Officer K V P Baskar felicitated the company's three millionth subscriber at a function here last night by offering her Rs 10,000 worth free talk time.

He said Aircel's network was currently available in more than 700 towns across Tamil Nadu and was likely to cross the 1,000 towns mark by the year end.

Stating that Aircel was making steady progress in its efforts to become a pan-India cellular operator, Mr Baskar said the company had recently rolled out its GSM cellular services in Assam, North East, Orissa, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir telecom circles.

Aircel also had roll-out plans in Bihar and Himachal Pradesh in the next two to three months, he added.

''The achievement of three-million subscribers has given a new momentum to our pan-India operations and we are confident of becoming the most rewarding cellular service provider across varied user profiles and geographies,'' Mr Baskar said.
