ULFA to "target" Congress in Asom

Guwahati, Oct 03 (UNI) The ULFA, for the first time in last 14 years, announced direct "threat" to the Congress in Asom last night, holding the party responsible for using them in elections and announced intensification of their fight.

'' The Congress has to pay the price now, '' declared the ULFA mouthpiece ''Freedom'' sending shockwaves amongst the Congressmen across the state even as the Government and party were trying to calm down the situation.

The security agencies in Assam were already anticipating trouble from today as heavy movements were reported from all over Asom by the ULFA cadres. Already one militant was killed by police in a check post at Lakhimpur last night, official source said when they were moving to Central Asom.

The ULFA had never been so publicly angry towards the Congress since the regime of former Chief Minister late Hiteswar Saikia (1990-1992), who took the charge after a spell of President's rule when the Operation Bajrang was launched .

''More excess from army in the state means more trouble for Congress and its party members in the state. They used the ULFA to win the election with the drama of talk and resumed the operation after escaping from the peace process'' said the ''Freedom'', which was circulated last night.

The Congress, which had become invincible in the state after sweeping victories in both Assembly and Lok Sabha poll taking advantage of complete disarray of both AGP and BJP, were shocked at the development and no one is ready to come out openly to even react to the ULFA threat.
