Timely action by cops prevents communal flare-up

Varanasi, Oct 3: A minor dispute between two groups in the sensitive Lohta area here today was prevented by the police from snowballing into a communal flare-up.

Police said two groups belonging to separate communities were involved in a dispute pertaining to a construction near a temple in Lohta. Police had earlier assured both groups of resolving the matter after the festival of Dussehra.

This afternoon, however, one of the groups started construction work near the disputed spot, following which youth from the other community started destroying the new construction leading to tension in the area.

Receiving the information, police in strength reached the spot and stopped the construction.

Meanwhile, police had been deployed in the area to deal with any eventuality.
